Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Details Next-Level Omnimovement, New Game Modes, and More

The curtain has been pulled back on Call of Duty: Black Ops 7‘s multiplayer suite, as developer Treyarch has provided more details about the game’s updated Omnimovement system, the total number of maps and weapons, and even more crucial information. Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be out in just about a month and a half, with a later-than-usual release date of November 14.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was first unveiled back in June as part of the Xbox Game Showcase and, as the closing reveal, misled many gamers with its futuristic setting and surreal visuals. People were surprised to learn that this year’s Call of Duty entry will offer a futuristic setting, as Call of Duty had leaned away from such locales since Black Ops 4 in 2018, which capped off a long streak of titles that featured high-tech robots, jetpacks, and even space travel.

Treyarch Details Black Ops 7 Multiplayer Suite at Call of Duty Next

Treyarch had a lot to reveal during Black Ops 7‘s recent Call of Duty Next event, and multiplayer was a major focus. As a direct follow-up to Black Ops 6, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is bringing forward its predecessor’s Omnimovement system while giving it a futuristic spin. Treyarch revealed that players will be able to utilize Omnimovement with “wall jumps,” and can even tweak the movement system via some of the game’s available perks. Black Ops 6‘s Omnimovement system always felt like it would fit right in to a futuristic game like Black Ops 7, and that’s exactly what it will do this time around.

New modes were also a big focus of the presentation’s multiplayer segment. The new 6v6 Overload mode is a sort of reverse capture the flag experience in which teams will need to carry a device behind enemy lines to score points. The much larger Skirmish is a 20v20 mode that will interestingly incorporate wing suits, vehicles, and grappling hooks. This exciting new Battlefield-like mode will be playable on two distinct large-scale 20v20 maps that will both be available at launch.

Treyarch had more to share in the way of maps, as it’s confirmed that Black Ops 7 will launch with 18 total, including the two 20v20 maps. The remaining 16 are classic 6v6 playgrounds, some of which will be suitable for smaller Gunfight-style game modes, and Treyarch confirmed that three of these maps will be returning from Black Ops 2. Before loading into these 18 launch maps, players will be able to choose from 30 total futuristic weapons, over half of which are brand new Call of Duty.

The next stop on the road to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launch day is the game’s open beta, which will let players go hands-on with select slices of Black Ops 7 multiplayer and Zombies. While it begins on October 5 and runs until October 8, those who have preordered the game or are subscribed to Xbox Game Pass will gain early access to the beta on October 2.
